Abstract

This dataset provides a list of the top 200 employers in the District of Columbia as of 2007, their senior executives, and associated contact information. Since 1984 the directory has served as an invaluable tool to business planners, administrators, and other parties interested in gaining access to the District’s leading employers. In September 2006, the top 200 firms accounted for 33% of the total private employment in the District of Columbia. Of the 200 employers listed, educational institutions are the largest group with approximately 27,800 workers or 18%. The second largest group is hospitals with approximately 22,300 employees or 15%. Law firms follow with 12,600 workers; hotels with 8,900; and food service establishments with 5,500 workers. The mission of the Department of Employment Services is to plan, develop and administer employment-related services to all segments of the Washington, DC metropolitan population. We achieve our mission through empowering and sustaining a diverse workforce, which enables all sectors of the community to achieve economic and social stability. Additional information about the Top 200 Employers in the District may be found on the DOES website: http://does.dc.gov/does/frames.asp?doc=/does/lib/does/top_200_book_2007.pdf
