Abstract

Public Housing Buildings. The dataset contains locations of Public Housing Building polygons created as part of the DC Geographic Information System (DC GIS) for the D.C. Office of the Chief Technology Officer (OCTO) and participating D.C. government agencies.

DC GIS staff obtained the data from multiple sources and geo-processed the data.

All DC GIS data is stored and exported in Maryland State Plane coordinates NAD 83 meters.

METADATA CONTENT IS IN PROCESS OF VALIDATION AND SUBJECT TO CHANGE.

Purpose

This data is used for the planning and management of Washington, D.C. by local government agencies.

Data accuracy

AccuracyData believed to be complete and accurate, subject to change. Validated by source and/or responsible agency.

OCTO GIS staff selected features by housing complex name to ensure correct location and clustering. Staff also performed a visual review of each complex by comparing the data against the orthophoto and planimetrics. The digital version was compared with the original source data for accuracy and completeness as well.

Logical consistencyIn process of validation by source and/or responsible agency.

CompletenessData believed to be complete and accurate, subject to change. Digital version compared with original source data for accuracy and completeness. Validated by source and/or responsible agency.

The Public Housing Data was compiled using the following sources:

* Material from DCHA Website
* Material from DCHD Website
* 1978 DCHA Maps Publication
* Sanborn Maps from Martin Luther King Jr. library
* Baist Maps
* 2002 Orthophoto
* Pictometry
* DC GIS Planimetrics
* Field Research, visited each site October 2004 & February 2005
* Maps from local housing complex office
* DCGIS Address Base
* Mobile Video Address Points

Using the 1979 published inventory of Public Housing from the DC Department of Public and Assisted Housing (DPAH), staff selected the buildings from the planimetrics in the public housing areas identified on the map. Then, Housing Authority staff checked and updated the source information to include public housing since 1979. DC GIS staff selected additional buildings from the planimetrics from this information.

OCTO GIS staff then updated the file using the local housing complex maps, from the management office for each of the housing complexes, along with the listed source materials. Buildings that had been torn down were deleted from the layer. Certain buildings were added. They were selected from the planimetrics and then merged with the existing Public Housing building layer.
